ORANGE COUNTY, Calif .– (BUSINESS WIRE) – October 27, 2021–
Parents, educators and administrators this week answered questions from children concerned about the recent oil spill that killed fish and birds. The concerns come at a time when some educators are seeing changes in children returning to class after two years at home due to COVID-19. Parenting experts today in Orange County pointed out the need for positive parenting it is proven to contribute to a child’s âemotional well-being and resilienceâ. The Positive Parenting Program is available to parents at www.triplep.online/oc and is free to all OC parents.

Resilience helps children ‘bounce back’ – What does it mean to be resilient? It’s about being able to bounce back from failure. Keep working on something, even when it’s not easy. Changes and challenges – big and small – are part of life. Learning to cope with challenges and uncertain times is an important lifelong skill. (Photo: Business Wire)
âBefore COVID, one in five Californian children needed help with emotional or behavioral issues, including anxiety, depression or harmful behaviors,â said 1 Dr Randy Ahn, local Triple P implementation consultant. âThese challenges don’t go away. âClinically elevated levels of depression and anxietyâ have probably doubled in children around the world. 2 Educators and administrators are likely to see children in their classrooms who have difficulty concentrating for long periods of time or who experience more stress and anxiety than in previous years. The good news is that parents can learn positive, simple and quick ways to help manage higher levels of stress and anxiety in their children.
âThe research is clear. Positive parenting improves the health and happiness of children, and this is what we want for all children in Orange County, âsaid Dr Jeff Nagel, OCHCA. âThis program is an OC resource that parents can access very easily on their smartphones and computers in moments. They can learn from world-class experts in child psychology. We know this program helps parents apply lessons that create a positive environment for their children.
âEmotionally resilient children not only have skills that can help them cope better with the challenges of the pandemic, but these skills can also help improve academic performance,â said Brad Thomas, CEO of Triple P America. âParents should learn to speak openly about stress and anxiety and help build their children’s resilience. We are excited to support OCHCA’s efforts to reach as many parents as possible and we know this online positive parenting program is a great place to start for parents.
Local OC parents who have taken the free program talk about its benefits. Gladys Zuñiga, a local relative from Fullerton, said she and her daughter have benefited from the free program.
âMy daughter and I are constantly referring to what we have learned in the program,â Zuñiga said. “Slow down. Breathing. Caring for myself first and foremost to make my daughter feel safe and loved. She is now in grade one and this is the first time she has been in a classroom with other children. I work every day to create a positive learning environment for her.
All parents and caregivers of children and adolescents in Orange County ages 0-16 can access Triple P Online for free, including the online guide to parenting during COVID-19, at www.triplep. online / oc. The online program is available in three languages: English, Spanish and Arabic.
