Positive Parenting Program Hopes To Improve Children’s Behavior | Local

CLEAR WATER COUNTY (WQOW) – A local nonprofit organization seeks to help parents improve their children’s behavior through positive parenting.

The Eau Claire Family Resource Center is launching Triple P, or positive parenting program for parents and caregivers of children up to 12 years of age.

Executive Director Jennifer Eddy said Triple P originated in Australia over 30 years ago and has been implemented in other countries since then.

Here in Eau Claire County, 20 staff from eight partner agencies were trained over the summer to not only help parents deal with ‘misconduct’ but also how to prevent it from happening by creating a positive environment at home.

“Make sure we compliment the good behaviors that we see in everyone around us, but especially in children like, ‘Thank you for doing what I asked for right away. Give me a high five! “If you have that kind of good relationship with your children, you will have to do less down time, less consequences for negative behavior, because they are motivated to work with you and make things work well,” he said. Eddy said.

Eddy added that research shows the program has helped improve the mental health of parents and children.

A virtual Triple P session is available on Tuesday, February 9 at 1 p.m. and Thursday, February 11 at 6 p.m. If you want to sign up for this free program, you can go here.
